As a minimum-waged young writer, I usually have to avoid contests with an entry fee. But the Bridport Prize is so well-respected that I thought 'what the hell', scraped together my pennies, and entered anyway. I loved every moment of the ceremony and it was wonderful to meet so many talented writers. I'm grateful to the administrators and readers for all the time and attention they gave to me and my story. Although the Scottish literary scene is endlessly vibrant and exciting, it's been great to get my name known among London agents too. The Bridport Prize has opened many doors for me, and I can't recommend it enough.
