1st Prize £5000 Dore Kiesselbach, Minneapolis, USA "Non-invasive "

Dore Kiesselbach Dore Kiesselbach studied writing at Oberlin College and, as a U.S. Department of Education Javits Fellow, at the University of Iowa. He has published widely in American and Canadian magazines such as FIELD, New Letters, Boulevard and Malahat Review. His first collection has been runner up or finalist in several first and open- book competitions, including the National Poetry Series and the 2009 Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize. He lives in Minneapolis.
2nd Prize £1000 Nick MacKinnon, Winchester "By Tompion and Banger"
Nick MacKinnon teaches maths and English at Winchester College. He has had a few poems published in Smiths Knoll, Warwick Review and Anon. He has won some competitions but coming second in the Bridport is basically beginner's luck. Nick MacKinnon
3rd Prize £500 Lydia Fulleylove, Isle of Wight "Night Drive"
Lydia Fulleylove is currently completing an Arts Council-funded combined arts project, Wild Places, at HMPAlbany, Isle of Wight. She has worked there as Writer in Residence from 2004 to 2009: a life- changing experience which has absorbed and sparked much of her creative energy. She has also led creative writing projects for a range of healthcare groups and for young people. She writes poetry, short stories, articles and creative writing materials, and is particularly interested in radio drama and, after a brilliant Arvon course, is now working on two radio plays. She received a Writer's Award from ACE in 2007 to work on a first poetry collection and a pamphlet is at present being considered by Happenstance Press.Websites: www.shorewomen.org.uk and www.hightidepoets.org.uk Her poetry and short stories have been published in a range of literary magazines and anthologies including Smiths Knoll, The Interpreter's House, Iota, Staple, Envoi and Re-writing the Map (Vane Women Press). Winner of Isle of Wight Faber/Ottakar poetry competition and runner up in the national competition in 1998. Her short story for young people 'Rose Petal Message' recently won second prize in the Henley-on- Thames Museum of River and Rowing, Wind in the Willows competition, June 2009. Her literature-based literacy and creative writing materials were published for Nelson Thornes Primary Literacy in 1998.

Josephine Abbott, Derby "Iron Gall Ink"
Josephine Abbott, born in Manchester, studied Latin & English Language at Sheffield University and now lives in Derby. Has had poems published in magazines such as Acumen, Agenda, TheFrogmorePapers, Standand others, and has won prizes and commendations in a range of competitions, including Lancaster LitFest 2000, and The National Poetry Competition in 1999. First full collection is Trying not to Levitate, published by Blinking Eye.
Liz Bassett, West Kilbride, Scotland "No Place"



Liz Bassett Liz Bassett was born in Northampton in 1973 and educated at Cambridge. Her poems have been published by The Red Wheelbarrow, White Leaf Review, Agenda Broadsheet, The Guardian Poetry Workshop, and in the anthologies My Mother Threw Knives (Second Light Publications), Solitaire (Templar Poetry) and New Poets from Britain and America(White Leaf Press). Alan Buckley, Oxford "Crimson"
Alan Buckley was originally from Merseyside. He moved to Oxford in the eighties to study English and has lived there ever since. Among other things, he has worked as a forklift truck driver, a psychotherapist, and a poet in residence at a prison. His first pamphlet Shiver (published by tall- lighthouse) was the Poetry Book Society pamphlet choice for summer 2009. He has recently received an Arts Council writer's grant, and is working towards a first collection. Alan Buckley

Rhonda Collis, British Columbia, Canada "Negative Space"
Rhonda Collis was born in Oliver, BC, Canada and received her BAin English at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. She wore many hats before she seriously settled into writing poetry and fiction, studying creative writing at the University of Victoria with poetry teachers, Patrick Lane and Lorna Crozier among others. Currently, she is completing her fourth year of a five-year optional residency Master's degree in Creative Writing with the University of British Columbia in Canada. Since 2006, she has had poetry and short fiction published in literary journals and is at work on her first novel. She lives in the small community of Cobble Hill, north of Victoria, BC, Canada with her husband and two daughters. Her short story 'Parada'was published in Room Magazine, Vancouver, and 'The Gospel Truth' in On Spec, Edmonton, Alberta. Her poetry, 'Overnight Train' appeared in The Antigonish Review, Antigonish; 'Journey Across the Pond'in Vancouver Magazine, Vancouver and 'Sudbury, 1972' in Regreen (Poetry Anthology).
Clare Diprose, Bath "Mourning"
Clare Diprose Clare Diprose lives in north-east Somerset, where she works as a feltmaker. She studied creative writing with the Open College of the Arts from 1995 to 2000. Her poem 'Mammoth's Teeth'won the Poetry Can competition in 1997, and 'Plums'was commended in the 2008 Plough Prize. Rocks full of stars, which brought together her felt and poems as book-art, toured with the South West Textile Group's exhibition 'Bound/Unbound'. She is distracted by birds and islands, but shared poetry sessions in Wells give her deadlines and encouragement. Two poems, 'Catching the Light'and 'Red', were in Island autumn/winter 2005, published by Essence Press.
Ben Holden, Exeter "Relationship"
Ben Holden was born in Basingstoke in 1976 and grew up in North Wales. He recently completed the MAin Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London and now lives in Devon.
Rhiannon Hooson, Powys, Wales "Fictions"
Rhiannon Hooson recently returned to mid-Wales after a spell in Mongolia, and is currently finishing a PhD at Lancaster University. Her work has appeared in various poetry journals, and in 2008 she won an Eric Gregory Award for poets under 30.
Christopher Horton, London "Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent "
Christopher Horton lives and works in London. His poems have been published (or are forthcoming) in various magazines including Iota, Fuselit, Dream Catcher,OtherPoetry, The Wolf, Magma, Poetry London, Ambitand Stand, and in the anthologies City Lighthouse(Tall Lighthouse) and City State: The New London Poetry(Penned in the Margins). He is also a regular reviewer of poetry for magazines, blogs and websites. He organises and hosts/co-hosts for East Words and The Sampler, two new London poetry events. He was recently commended in the National Poetry Competition.
Helen Oswald, Brighton "Morning After"
Helen Oswald's pamphlet, The Dark Skies Society, was published by Waterloo Press. Her debut collection, Learning Gravity, is due from tall- lighthouse next spring. Helen's poems have appeared in a number of anthologies and poetry magazines, including Magma, Poetry Review, The Rialto and Poetry London. She currently works as an editor in Brighton. Vidyan Ravinthiran, Leeds "Hangover"

Vidyan Ravinthiran Vidyan Ravinthiran was born in 1984 and is a graduate student and lecturer at Balliol College, Oxford. His pamphlet, At Home or Nowhere, was published by tall-lighthouse last year. Other poems have appeared in Magma, Poetry Review, The North, The TLSand are forthcoming in Ambitand Stand.
