Dr. Fay Weldon, CBE, D. Litt, FRSL - Patron of Bridport Prize

Fay Weldon

Fay Weldon is one of Britain's most influential, best-read and versatile writers. As well as over 20 novels and four collections of short stories, she writes for stage, screen, television and radio. She is Professor of Creative Writing at Brunel University. Her novel Spa, the Decameron is just out, and the paperback of a non-fiction work What Makes Women Happy will follow soon.

She has a reputation, albeit a controversial one, as one of the formative influences in Britain feminist revolution. A contributor to many major newspapers, much interviewed, and familiar face and voice on TV and radio, often to be heard of Radio 4's Saturday Review, she is also a trusted judge - the Windsor Fringe Festival, Mind's Book of the Year, and with John Mortimer, of the Mail on Sunday's first para of a novel competition. She was Chairman of the Judges for the 1983 Booker prize.

Fay Weldon lives in Dorset in the UK, is married and has four sons. She is currently working on a new novel, The Stepmother.
